Enterprise Week is back! It's a cross-university programme of events to help you make the most of your creative talents and stand out from the crowd in the highly competitive creative industries. It doesn't matter if you are a sculptor, a designer, a photographer or a curator you need to be able to professionally transform your ideas into reality.

We are holding events across at all 6 colleges and the Student Hub at Davies Street. Come and listen to cutting-edge, successful creative practitioners advise how to:

  • plan, develop, manage and promote your creative projects (events, exhibitions, websites, ethical/social etc)
  • learn how to creatively collaborate and meet other University of the Arts London students at our networking evenings

Self-promotion

Getting your work and your name out there is a constant struggle for creatives of all disciplines. This interactive workshop will be hosted by Joe Wade, Director at Don't Panic and will help you come up with ways of getting yourself out there. Don't Panic work with organisations to help them promote themselves to a young, design conscious audience, placing emphasis on design and the future of our planet.

Enterprise Week Keynote Speech & Launch Party

Enterprise Week kicks off with our keynote speaker, Will Parkinson from Jack Liberties offering a unique take on how to promote yourself and / or your creative project in new and interesting ways. You can also hear about how to apply for the all-new Arts London Proof of Concept and Investment fund for your start-up creative business. Come and have a drink on us, and network with other like-minded students from across the university. Take home an ECCA goodie bag with your free USB stick along with other assorted enterprise-related treasures.

I want a website but I don't know where to start

There are many different reasons for needing a website – to promote yourself, your practice, your business, services, exhibition or project. But how do you get one? This talk will cover reasons to get a website; what makes a good website; how to get started; making sure it all goes according to plan; and keeping ownership the final site. The session will be led by Rob Popper, Director of Electronic Marketsquares, a non-profit company that has been helping artists and designers in London get to grips with the Internet, digital photography and creative uses of technology for 7 years. Miles Donovan and Andrew Rae from illustration collective Peepshow will act as a case study, showing and talking about the development of their website over the last few years.

Creative Collaboration

As a creative professional you will not be working in a bubble. Increasingly people come together from different disciplines to work alongside each other to make the most innovative projects happen. But how does this operate in reality? What issues arise and what are the best ways of dealing with them? This talk will be led by Wendy Daws and Michael Warren from Fuse UK. Fuse UK a collective of young and emerging design talent. Their pieces range from very beautiful lampshades made of re-cycled card and a maple and cherry sideboard, flying ducks and to a chair that collects the cash that drops from your pockets.

Turn your creative idea into a business

The University recently launched a new funding scheme to support creative ideas that have the potential to become financially successful. The Proof of Concept Fund offers up to £5k to students, alumni (up to 3 years from graduation), researchers and staff from the University. But how do you turn your creative ideas into a financially viable business proposal? How can you access this money? All will be revealed in this informative talk, led by ECCA's own Alison Coward, alongside Frederique Peroy and Jeremy Davenport from the UAL Enterprise Network.

How to make your creative project happen

The ins and outs of project management can be pretty dull – this interactive workshop will look at quick and dirty ways of getting started. The workshop will be hosted by Alex Bec and Will Hudson from If you could. 'If you could' is an annual publication, aiming to showcase the best in design and illustration, contributions are welcomed from both established and up and coming artists on the theme, If you could do anything tomorrow, what would it be? Each publication is launched alongside an exhibition, showing every single contribution received, meaning nobody's work goes unseen. If You Could has been featured in: Grafik, Creative Review, Design Week, Computer Arts, V&A Village Fete 2006 and 'The Young Knives' Album Launch.

This session will be followed by drinks and networking.

Get your ethical/social project up and running

Do you have a project that aims to create public or social benefit, rather than money? Perhaps you are planning a green exhibition or art workshops in your local community… No matter what the precise nature of your social or ethical project, there are some generic issues that you need to consider. Come and learn about how to get going and tips for survival from a range of people who have been there and done it very successfully. Speakers include: Suzanne Creasey from the School for Social Entrepreneurs, Nina and Nendie from Hardcore is More Than Music and Lucy from We All Reuse.

FifZine: the new creative digital community

Come and be amongst the first to learn about the new creative digital community, FifZine. Fifzine levels the playing field so that what you know and do finally outweighs "who you know" within the creative industries. Members will be able to promote and perfect their work while businesses will have an environment where they can find leading edge creative talent. Fifzine is the essential destination for the creative, cultural and commercial worlds and is aimed at everyone who is interested in viewing, creating, sharing and commercially developing the best in creative content. Chris Joscelyne, Fifzine's Content Director will show the site explain how it works. You will be able to upload your work and become members on the night, so bring along examples of work as video, images, text or audio files to upload.

ECCA one-to-one advice drop-in sessions with Alison Coward & Percy Emmett.

Are you thinking about running a business, on the brink of starting out, in need of help managing an existing business or want to take your creative business in a new direction?

From 10am to 4pm on Friday 16 November, in the ECCA Central office on the 1st floor of Davies Street and at ECCA North at the CSM Innovation Centre, ECCA are offering drop-in to one-to-one advice sessions for students thinking of setting up or who have already set up a creative business. We offer a confidential sounding board for you to bounce ideas off and help you to step back and look at the bigger picture. If we can't help you, we will try and point you in the direction of other people or organisations that can.
