Sarah's presentation
Sarah Mann, Assistant Curator at Somerset House reflected on the skills needed for her job to cover all aspects needed when organising an exhibition.
Planning Sarah admits that 90% of her job is planning the event, and this should be the first steps to your success. Planning involves research, timetabling, brainstorming, project management and working backwards from your event date to fit it all all.
Sponsorship If you need additional funding or resources for your show, sponsorship is an option, but you need to target companies that share your market, you need to start work early and possibly approach new companies that may want the exposure. It can be a lot of work as you need to be able to offer them something in return, and you need to consider whether it is really worth it.
Budget Managing a budget is a skill you will need (and if you don't have it, assign to someone that does), but you can make it simple by diving it into sections, keeping details all in one place, having a contingency fund and getting accurate quotes in advance.
