organising a show as a fine artist
Central Saint Martins Fine Art graduate (2004) Tom Smith shared his experiences as a practicing artist based in London and discussed how to use your skills to plan and execute successful shows.
Tom shared his experience on putting up an exhibition, starting from his graduation show at CSM, to a professional one in his fine arts career. He touched on many of the practical aspects of putting up a show – from identifying the aims, choosing the venue, selecting a collective of artists, curating the works, to event and budget planning.
He also talked about the pros and cons of working with galleries, and what artists should include when writing a proposal. Tom also gave some useful resources for funding sources, platforms for artists, avenues for promotion and also strategies for pricing.
