Cultural Industries & the Law: A practical guide to music, film, television, and publishing |
A practical guide to legislation which identifies how contracts and deals are made, covering the 1988 Copyright, Design and Patents Act; protecting and exploiting intellectual and creative capital; current issues surrounding copyright; property and performing rights; and aspects of contract law relevant to the culturlal industries.

Technical Support Surgery @ Space Media Arts |
Space's Technical Support Surgery is a practical advice session, troubleshooting your digital editing and post-production needs. The surgery's comprehensive training and support is designed to be tailormade for your specific hardware/software issues. Space offer a broad technical knowledge with a friendly and helpful attitude and we are dedicated to providing practical advice and assistance across all levels. The surgery is for anyone from novice filmmakers to video professionals who want to support and troubleshoot their editing and post-production systems in a professional setting.
All support sessions will be carried out in the Moving Image suite although users can bring in their own systems for a more personalised solution.

BBC Training |
Freelancers in the broadcast industry can now have access to BBC Training and Development courses at a subsidy of 60 per cent. This is in addition to the courses already funded by Skillset. They cover subjects including camera skills, lighting, sound and post-production.

Developing Professional Practice for Small Businesses |
This is a modular based training programme devised by the Education office at Cockpit Arts for designer/makers running their own business.
The programme runs over a year and is tailored to fit the highs & lows of the designer/makers calendar. As well as incorporating business and marketing modules the course also covers IT training, photography, copyright, manufacturing & funding.
Each delegate is assigned a mentor to help focus on particular needs. The key theme to the training is personalisation – giving candidates power and control over their business and their lives. The control enables the sole traders to develop marketing strategies, which can change in relationship to their business requirements.
Places are limited to 25 per year.

Cultural Enterprise Course |
Cultural Enterprise: The Social Enterprise Approach to Arts and Culture. A part-time short course for people who want to develop their ability to strengthen arts and cultural organisations.
This new part-time short course at City University, London (supported by the European Social Fund) is specifically designed for people with experience of small or medium scale arts and cultural organisations who want to develop their ability to strengthen organisations and/or develop new income opportunities.
Taught by Di Robson and a range of guest speakers from the cultural sector, the course will explore areas such as capacity building, sustainability and organisational development.
Di is an experienced arts producer who has worked with organisations such as the East London Mela, Glasgay in Glasgow and the Jaipur Heritage International Festival in India. |
